Notifications
Turn on notifications in TACENZA Chat, choose what you're notified about, mute chats, set quiet hours, and how content-free push notifications work.
TACENZA Chat shows notifications on your device while it’s open. Push notifications for when it’s closed are a separate opt-in for each device, and they never carry who wrote or what. All your notification rules are decided on your device. This page explains each setting in Settings › Notifications.
Turn on notifications
- Open Settings › Notifications.
- Under On this device, choose Turn on notifications.
- Allow notifications when your browser asks.
If the app says “Notifications are blocked for Tacenza”, allow them in your browser’s site settings and try again.
Show message text is off by default: a notification shows only who sent the message. Turn it on to see the text too. It then shows on your screen and in your system’s notification list.
Push notifications
Push wakes your device when a message arrives while TACENZA is closed. Turn on Push notifications on this device under On this device. It’s off until you choose it, and you turn it on per device.
What push reveals:
- The notice goes through your browser maker’s push service – Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft. That service sees when you get a notice, never who wrote or what.
- The notice is encrypted to your device and says only “You have a new message”. There’s no sender and no text.
- Your account gets at most one push a minute. Reactions, edits and read receipts never wake anyone.
- Nothing is shown while a TACENZA window is visible. Tapping the notice opens the chat.
Push isn’t affected by muting, because your mute choices are encrypted and the server can’t read them. The notice has no content either way.
Installing TACENZA from your browser also shows unread messages on the app icon.
Choose what you’re notified about
Under Notify me about, switch each category on or off:
- Messages in 1:1 chats
- Messages in groups
- Mentions of me
- Replies to me
- Reactions to my messages
- Events I’m going to (15 minutes before)
Per-chat settings
Open a chat’s Details panel. Under Just for you:
- Notify me about – All messages, Mentions and replies only or Nothing.
- Mute – For 15 minutes, For 1 hour, For 8 hours, For 24 hours or Until I turn it back on.
These choices are kept in your encrypted account data.
Quiet hours and Do not disturb
- Quiet hours silences all notifications between the times you set under From and To.
- Setting your status to Do not disturb also silences notifications on your own devices.
Email notifications
Where TACENZA has email sending set up, Email notifications can send you a short email when you’ve been away for an hour and something new arrived – at most one a day. It never says who wrote, what, or in which chat. You confirm your address with a 6-digit code.
With email notifications on, the server keeps your email address in plain text. It’s the only real-world detail TACENZA would ever hold about you. Turning it off deletes the address.
