Set up your profile
Add a display name, picture, bio, status and links to your TACENZA Chat profile, and choose who can see each part of it.
Your profile tells people who you are: a display name, a picture, a short bio, a status and a few links. Like everything else in TACENZA Chat, it’s encrypted on your device, and only people you talk to can read it. This page walks you through setting it up. For how profiles work in detail, see Profiles.
Open your profile
- Choose You in the navigation, or open your profile directly.
- Your profile editor is on the page, with a preview of how others see your profile.
- Make your changes and choose Save profile.
Photo and banner
- Picture. Choose Choose picture. Pictures are resized on your device. Your last 3 pictures are kept under Earlier photos, so you can switch back.
- Banner. A wide image at the top of your profile. Wide images work best (3 : 1).
- Profile colour. Pick one of eight colours, or none.
About
- Display name. Shown instead of your username, up to 40 characters. People always see your @username next to it, so nobody can pass as someone else.
- Pronouns. Optional.
- About you. A bio of up to 200 characters.
Your username itself can’t be changed yet. See Change my username.
Status
A status is something you set yourself. TACENZA doesn’t detect or track when you’re online.
- Under Status, choose Online, Away, Do not disturb or Invisible – or None.
- Optionally add an emoji and a short text, up to 80 characters.
- Under Clear after, choose 1 hour, 4 hours, Today, Tomorrow or Never.
Do not disturb also silences notifications on your own devices.
Links
Add up to 5 links. Only addresses on an allowed list can be used, such as github.com, instagram.com, youtube.com or linkedin.com. Links must use https, and the app checks them both when you save and when someone else views your profile.
Choose who sees what
Under Who can see, each part of your profile has its own audience:

- Everyone means everyone you talk to, in 1:1 chats or groups.
- Contacts are people you’ve written to or accepted.
- Nobody means it stays on your devices and is never uploaded.
Your display name and profile colour are always visible to everyone you talk to.
To stop sharing your profile altogether, turn off Share my profile in Settings › Privacy Center. Your profile gets a new key, so nobody can read it any more.
Share your profile link
Choose Copy profile link on the You page to get a link like https://chat.tacenza.app/u/yourname. When someone opens it and is signed in, the app opens your profile.
