Writing and sending mail

How to write, reply and send from your own or a shared address in TACENZA Mail, and the sending limits that apply to new sign-up accounts.

This page covers writing new mail, replying, choosing which address you send from, and the limits on how many people new sign-up accounts can write to. For files, see Attachments.

Write a new message

  1. Select Write in the sidebar.
  2. If you have more than one address, pick one under From.
  3. Enter one or more addresses in To.
  4. Add a Subject and your message.
  5. Select Send.

Sent mail is saved in Sent. Messages are plain text.

Warning

Drafts aren’t saved as you write. Closing the message window, or clicking outside it, throws away what you wrote.

What the message window doesn’t have yet

There are no Cc or Bcc fields, no forwarding and no formatting. Mail apps connected over IMAP and SMTP can do these (see Mail settings).

Reply

Open a conversation and select Reply, at the top or on a single message. The original is quoted below your reply, and the subject gets “Re:”.

  • A reply goes to the person who sent that message.
  • Replying to your own message goes to the same people as before.
  • There’s no reply-all yet.

Send as a shared address

If you have a shared address like support@:

  • Writing from inside its inbox sends from that address.
  • Replying there answers as the address.
  • Replies are saved in the address’s Sent, so the whole team sees them.

You can only send from your own address and the shared addresses you have. The server refuses mail with anyone else’s From address, in the web app and in mail apps. Someone given a shared address in Team settings can send as it about half a minute later.

Sending limits for new accounts

Accounts made through sign-up can only write to a few people at first. This keeps spammers who get in from hurting the server’s standing with Gmail and Outlook, and so everyone’s mail. Company accounts added by their admin don’t have these limits.

Account age People per message People per 24 hours
First day 10 20
First week 25 100
After that 50 500
  • Every recipient counts. A message to 3 people uses 3.
  • The 24 hours roll, so room frees up as time passes.
  • Over the limit, the message isn’t sent and the app says why under the message.
  • The web app and mail apps each keep their own count.
  • In a mail app, the higher limit can arrive up to five minutes after your account reaches the next age.

When sending fails

  • “… isn’t an email address”: check the To field for typos. Separate addresses with commas.
  • “Add at least one recipient.”: the To field is empty.
  • “Your account can’t send mail right now.”: the account is suspended. You can still read and save mail. See Privacy and encryption in Mail.
