Managing your account
Where TACENZA Chat's settings live – password, recovery key, devices, sessions, two-factor sign-in, plan and deleting your account.
Your TACENZA Chat account is managed from Settings in the app. This page shows where each setting lives and walks through the ones you’ll use most. TACENZA Mail has its own account and settings, inside the Mail app.
Where settings live
Open Settings from the navigation, or go straight to a section: Settings › Account opens your account settings. Settings are grouped like this:
| Group | Sections |
|---|---|
| Account | Account, Plan, Devices |
| Privacy & safety | Privacy Center, Security Center |
| Preferences | Notifications, Messages, Appearance, Accessibility, Language |
| Data | Storage, Advanced |
Most of your settings are kept in your encrypted account data, so they follow you to every device and the server can’t read them. The Account section of these docs covers each area in more detail, including passwords and two-factor sign-in, sessions and devices and deleting your account.
Change your password
- Open Settings › Account.
- Under Change password, enter your Current password, then your New password twice. It needs at least 10 characters.
- Choose Change password.
Your other devices are signed out. Your messages and keys stay the same.
Make a new recovery key
Make a new recovery key if you’ve lost yours or think someone has seen it.
- Open Settings › Account and find Recovery key.
- Enter your current password and choose Make a new recovery key.
- Save the new key. The old one stops working at once.
If you forget your password, see I forgot my password. If you’ve lost your key, see I lost my recovery key.
Devices and sessions
- Devices. Settings › Devices lists the devices you’re signed in on. Sign out any of them, or choose Sign out all other devices. Devices unused for 30 days drop off by themselves.
- Device limits. Free allows 2 devices at a time, Plus 5 and Pro 10. If you’re at the limit, the app asks you to sign one out before you can continue. See Too many devices.
- Sessions. A session lasts 12 hours. Reloading logs you out unless you tick Stay signed in on this device when you log in, or turn it on under Settings › Devices › On this device. Only use it on a device that’s yours alone.
- Log out when inactive. In Settings › Security Center, sign this device out after 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 1 hour without use.
Two-factor sign-in and sign-in history
Both are off by default, and each says what it lets the server see where you turn it on.
- Two-factor sign-in (Settings › Security Center) adds a 6-digit code from an authenticator app to your password. Resetting your password with your recovery key also turns it off, which is the way back if you lose your phone too. See Two-factor codes aren’t working.
- Sign-in history (Settings › Devices) lists your last 50 sign-ins with the date and which of your devices. It never stores an IP address, a place or a browser. Turning it off deletes the list.
Your plan
Settings › Plan shows your plan, your storage, devices and bots, and your claim and invite codes. Free is fully usable; paid plans add capacity, never privacy. To stop a paid plan, see Cancel a subscription.
Export your settings
Settings › Advanced › Encrypted export saves your settings, bookmarks, blocked people, contacts’ pinned keys and chat preferences in a file sealed with a passphrase. It doesn’t contain messages or keys.
Delete your account
- Open Settings › Account.
- Under Delete account, choose Delete account and confirm.
Your account, 1:1 chats and keys are deleted for good, and you leave every group. Accounts nobody logs in to for 6 months are also deleted, unless they have a running paid subscription.
Deleting your account can’t be undone, by you or by us. Save anything you want to keep first. See Delete my account.
