TACENZA Mail at a glance

TACENZA Mail is private email for people, teams and your own domain. It’s in development: much of it is built and tested, but sign-up isn’t open to the public yet. This page explains what exists today and what to expect. For the latest on what’s built, see TACENZA Mail.

Can I sign up?

Not yet. Sign-up is built, but it isn’t open. Before it opens, Mail needs real use by a few people first, and there’s no billing or support desk for it yet. See Mail sign-up isn’t open.

Your TACENZA Chat account doesn’t give you a Mail address, and can’t be used to sign in to Mail. The two products have separate accounts today – see Welcome to TACENZA.

What’s built

• Your own domain. Addresses like [email protected], with DKIM, SPF and DMARC set up per domain. The mail server shows exactly which DNS records to add.
• Reading and writing. Folders with unread counts, a reading pane, replies with the original quoted, and attachments up to 50 MB per file.
• Conversations and search. Replies are grouped with the message they answer. Search by words, “exact phrases”, from:, to:, subject:, has:attachment and is:unread. The text of encrypted mail can’t be searched. See Searching your mail.
• No tracking pixels. Images from the internet stay hidden until you choose Show images, because loading them tells the sender you opened the mail. Images sent inside the mail show right away.
• Shared addresses. A company can have addresses like support@ and billing@, and its admin decides who has each one. In a shared inbox you can assign messages to people and mark them done.
• Signing in. Your address and password, optional two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app, and separate app passwords for mail apps.
• Other apps. The mail server speaks IMAP and SMTP, so Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and phone mail apps work too.
• Optional encryption of stored mail. Turn it on and new mail is stored encrypted with a key only you have. A recovery key, shown once, gets you back in after a password reset.

Mail is in English for now.

How Mail’s privacy differs from Chat’s

Email works differently from TACENZA Chat, and we say so plainly.

• Email isn’t end-to-end encrypted. Mail from Gmail and others arrives unencrypted, because that’s how email works. With encryption on, we encrypt it with your key the moment it’s stored, but that still isn’t end-to-end.
• Some details stay readable to us. Who a message is from and to, its subject and its date.
• Your password passes our server when you sign in. We don’t keep it, but for now that’s a promise you can’t check. Signing in without the server ever seeing your password is on the roadmap.
• A company admin can reset your password. With encryption on, a reset doesn’t open your encrypted mail – only your recovery key does.
