Welcome to TACENZA

What TACENZA Chat, TACENZA Mail and TACENZA Store are, how these docs are organised, and why Chat and Mail have separate accounts today.

TACENZA makes private communication tools, by CARTIQO. This page explains what each product is, how far along it is, and how accounts work across them today. If you just want to start chatting, go straight to Create a TACENZA Chat account.

The products

TACENZA Chat

TACENZA Chat is an end-to-end encrypted messenger and community app. It has 1:1 chats, groups with channels, roles and moderation, profiles, a public group directory, bots and live location. Everything is encrypted on your device before it’s sent. The server relays and stores ciphertext, and it never learns what you write, what your groups are called or who your contacts are.

An account needs a username and a password – nothing else. There’s no email address or phone number to give.

Chat runs in your browser at chat.tacenza.app, can be installed as an app from the browser, and there’s a desktop app for Windows. It’s available in English and Danish.

TACENZA Mail

TACENZA Mail is private email for people, teams and your own domain, with shared addresses like support@ that can be given to team members. It’s in development: sign-up is built, but it isn’t open to the public yet. Read TACENZA Mail at a glance for what exists today.

TACENZA Store

TACENZA Store is the official TACENZA shop, at tacenza.store. It isn’t part of Chat or Mail, and these docs don’t cover it.

Accounts across the products

Today, TACENZA Chat and TACENZA Mail have separate accounts with their own sign-in. A Chat account doesn’t give you a Mail address, and a Mail account can’t sign in to Chat.

The reason is how Chat works: your Chat keys are made on your device and never leave it unencrypted, so your Chat password can’t be checked by another service. We’re working towards one TACENZA account for every product, but it isn’t built yet.

Chat usernames already follow rules that make every name valid as the part of an email address before the @ (see username rules), so they can work with Mail later.

Troubleshooting What to do when something isn’t working

Docs explain how things work. When you have a specific problem, such as not being able to log in, the Help Center is usually quicker.

Good places to start

  1. Create a TACENZA Chat account and save your recovery key.
  2. Set up your profile and choose who sees what.
  3. Read Getting started with Chat to find your way around.
  4. Read How encryption works and What the server stores if you want to know exactly what’s protected.

Getting help

If something isn’t working, search the Help Center or contact support. The status page shows whether every service is running.
