Searching your mail
How to search TACENZA Mail by words, sender, recipient, subject, files and read state, and what search can't find inside encrypted mail.
The search box sits above the message list. It searches the address you’re looking at: your own mail, or a shared address like support@. This page explains what you can type, what search can’t see, and what to do when it doesn’t find something.
Run a search
- Open your own folders, or a shared address, in the sidebar.
- Type in Search your mail (or Search followed by the shared address’s name).
- Press Enter.
The list becomes Search, with results from every folder. Each result shows which folder it’s in. Trash, Spam and Drafts aren’t searched.
To go back, select Clear, empty the box, or pick a folder.

You can combine them: from:anna has:attachment invoice.
Whole words only
Search matches whole words. invoice finds “invoices”, but inv finds nothing. If a search comes back with Nothing found., try the full word or fewer words.
Encrypted mail
With encryption on, the text and files of your mail are stored so that the server can’t read them – and the search runs on the server. So:
- The sender, recipients and subject of encrypted mail can be searched.
- The text and files of encrypted mail can’t.
The app reminds you of this under the search box. Searching inside encrypted mail in your browser is planned, but not built.
Limits
- Results show the newest 50 matching conversations. Add words to narrow it down.
- Search doesn’t look in Trash, Spam or Drafts. Open those folders to look through them.
- Shared inboxes don’t show the Open, Mine, Unassigned and Done tabs while you search.
If search doesn’t find it
- Check the spelling and use whole words.
- Search for the sender or subject instead of the text, especially if the mail is encrypted.
- Make sure you’re searching the right place: your own mail and each shared address are searched separately.
- Look in Trash and Spam by opening them.
- A mail app over IMAP can search too (see Mail settings). It sees encrypted mail as encrypted, so it can’t search inside it either.
