Getting started with Mail
What TACENZA Mail is today, who can use it, how to sign in for the first time, and how it differs from your TACENZA Chat account.
TACENZA Mail is business email from CARTIQO: addresses on your own domain, a web app at mail.tacenza.app, and a mail server that also works with Outlook, Thunderbird and the mail app on your phone. It’s still private while we use it for our own mail. This page explains who can use it now, how to sign in the first time, and what to expect.
Who can use Mail today
Mail is in development. Two kinds of account exist:
- Company accounts. A company’s admin adds people in Team settings. Each person gets an address on the company’s domain, like
[email protected]. - Sign-up accounts. Sign-up on mail.tacenza.app is built, but it isn’t open yet. When it opens, you’ll pick a name and a password – no phone number, no other email address – and get an address like
[email protected].
If you’re waiting for sign-up, see Mail sign-up isn’t open yet.
Mail accounts are separate from TACENZA Chat accounts. Your Chat username and password don’t sign you in to Mail, and changing one doesn’t change the other. There’s no billing for Mail yet.
Signing in for the first time
If your company’s admin added you, they give you a temporary password in person or on a call.
- Open mail.tacenza.app and enter your email address and the temporary password.
- Tick Keep me signed in on this device only on a device that’s yours.
- Select Sign in.
- On Choose your own password, enter the temporary password, then a new password of at least 10 characters, twice.
- Select Save password. Your mailbox opens.
You can’t read mail until you’ve chosen your own password. After that, the temporary one stops working.
Staying signed in
- Without Keep me signed in on this device, you stay signed in when you reload, and closing the browser signs you out.
- With it ticked, you stay signed in on that device until you sign out.
- Signing out in one tab signs out every tab.
Your password is only used to sign in and isn’t saved in the browser.
Find your way around
The sidebar has everything:
- Write opens a new message.
- Your own folders come first, with unread counts. Shared addresses you have, like support@, are listed under Shared.
- At the bottom: Team settings (admins only), Encryption, Password & sign-in and Sign out.
The app follows your device’s light or dark setting and works on a phone. It’s in English for now.
Using other mail apps
The mail server speaks IMAP and SMTP, so Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and phone apps work too. Make an app password for each one under Password & sign-in. See Mail settings.
What isn’t built yet
Be aware of these before you move your mail here:
- Drafts don’t save as you write. Closing the message window loses what you wrote.
- The list doesn’t update by itself. Select Refresh to check for new mail.
- There’s no calendar or contacts, and no way to import mail from Gmail or Outlook.
- There’s no self-service password reset for sign-up accounts. See Getting back into your account.
