Notifications not arriving
Step-by-step checks when TACENZA Chat notifications, push notifications or email notifications don't arrive, and why Mail doesn't notify you yet.
TACENZA Chat has three kinds of notification, and each can stop for its own reasons: notifications while Tacenza is open, push notifications when it’s closed, and email notifications when you’ve been away. Start with the section that matches what you expected. For the settings themselves, see Notification settings.
Nothing at all, even with Tacenza open
- Go to Settings › Notifications.
- If you see Turn on notifications, select it and allow them when the browser asks.
- If it says Notifications are blocked for Tacenza, allow them in your browser’s site settings (the icon to the left of the address), then reload.
- If it says This browser can’t show notifications, use another browser or the desktop app.
- Check your device’s own settings: system notifications for your browser, and focus or do-not-disturb modes.
Nothing from one chat or group
- Open the chat’s info and check what it notifies about: everything, only mentions and replies, or nothing.
- Check whether the chat is muted, and until when.
- In Settings › Notifications › Notify me about, check that the right kind is on – for example Messages in groups.
- Check Quiet hours and your Do not disturb status.
Nothing when Tacenza is closed
Without push, notifications only appear while Tacenza is open or installed and running.
- In Settings › Notifications, turn on Push notifications on this device. It’s set per device, so do it on each one.
- If it says Push isn’t available here, install Tacenza, or use a browser that supports push. On an iPhone or iPad, add Tacenza to the Home Screen from Safari and turn push on there.
- Logging out turns push off on that device. After logging in again, turn it back on.
- You won’t get a push while a Tacenza window is open and connected. The notification shows in the app instead.
- Several messages close together can arrive as a single notice.
A push notice only says “You have a new message”, with no sender or text. That’s on purpose: it passes through Google’s, Mozilla’s, Apple’s or Microsoft’s push service.
Email notifications don’t arrive
- Go to Settings › Notifications and look under Email notifications. Your address should be shown with a tick. If it still asks for a code, enter the one from the email, or select Cancel and start again with Send code.
- A note is only sent when you’ve been away for an hour and something new arrived. At most one a day. Coming back to Tacenza before that cancels it.
- Look in your spam or junk folder, and mark the note as not spam.
If there’s no Email notifications group at all, the server can’t send email right now.
TACENZA Mail doesn’t notify you
TACENZA Mail has no notifications or push yet, and the web app doesn’t update by itself. Select Refresh to check for new mail. A mail app connected over IMAP, like the one on your phone, can notify you instead (see Mail settings).
