Sessions and devices
How long you stay logged in to TACENZA Chat, how the device list works, how to sign a device out, and what happens at your plan's device limit.
Every login to TACENZA Chat starts a session on a device. This page explains how long sessions last, how to stay signed in after a reload, and how to see and sign out your devices. There’s no separate list of sessions: each session belongs to a device, and signing a device out ends its sessions.
How long you stay logged in
- Reloading logs you out unless Stay signed in on this device is on.
- A session ends 12 hours after it was last used. Then you log in again.
- Log out in the Settings navigation ends the session on this device.
Stay signed in on this device
Reloading or reopening Tacenza keeps you logged in until the session ends or you log out. Only use it on a device that’s yours alone: anyone who can use that browser can open your account until then.
You can tick it on the login screen, or:
- Go to Settings › Devices.
- Under On this device, turn on Stay signed in on this device.
Your session and a key that can’t be read out stay in this browser’s storage. Logging out deletes them.
Log out when inactive
In Settings › Security Center, Log out when inactive signs this device out after 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 1 hour without use. It’s Never by default. When it happens, you’ll see “You were logged out after being inactive.”
Your devices
Settings › Devices lists the devices you’re signed in on, with this device or last used and a date. The server only knows a random id for each device and the day it was last used. Device names are kept in your encrypted account.
- Devices unused for 30 days drop off by themselves.
- A reload is the same device.
Sign a device out
- Go to Settings › Devices.
- Select Sign out next to the device and confirm.
It needs your password to log in again.
Sign out every other device
Select Sign out all other devices and confirm. Every device except this one is signed out.
Changing your password does the same (see Password, recovery key and two-factor sign-in).
If you think someone else has your password, change it, then check Settings › Devices and the sign-in history.
The device limit
Each plan allows a number of devices: 2 on Free, 5 on Plus and 10 on Pro.
If you log in with the right password on a new device when you’re at the limit, you’ll see Too many devices with your devices listed. Pick one and select Sign out and continue. The device you sign out keeps nothing: it has to log in again. See Too many devices.
After a downgrade, devices over the new limit all stay signed in. To add a new one, sign one out first.
Sign-in history
To see when and on which device your account was logged in to, turn on Keep a sign-in history in Settings › Devices. See Password, recovery key and two-factor sign-in.
