Account settings

A tour of Settings in TACENZA Chat – your username, password, recovery key, email and phone, plan, devices, export and the other sections.

Everything about your TACENZA Chat account is in Settings, grouped into four parts: your account, privacy and safety, preferences, and data. This page says what each section holds and where to go for more. Almost everything in Settings is stored in your encrypted vault, so the server can’t read it.

Open Settings from the navigation, or go straight to Settings › Account.

Data

  • Settings › Storage: how much of your plan’s storage your files use, and clearing photos held in memory on this device.
  • Settings › Advanced: Encrypted export, Import and diagnostics.

Encrypted export

An export is a file with your settings, bookmarks, blocked people, contacts’ pinned keys and chat preferences, sealed with a passphrase of 10 or more characters. Messages aren’t in it: they stay end-to-end encrypted on the server.

  1. Go to Settings › Advanced.
  2. Enter a passphrase and select Export.
  3. Keep the file and the passphrase.

Import adds what’s missing from an export of the same account. It never replaces keys you’ve pinned, and restores settings only if Also restore settings is on.

Email and phone

Under Settings › Account you can add an email address and a phone number in the Email (optional, encrypted) and Phone (optional, encrypted) fields. Both stay in your encrypted vault, so the server can’t read them, and Tacenza never uses them for anything. They can’t be used to reset your password: only your recovery key can do that. See Getting back into your account.

Email notifications use a separate address that you add in Settings › Notifications. See Notification settings.
