Notification settings
How to turn on notifications, push on a closed app, quiet hours and email notifications in TACENZA Chat, and what each one reveals.
TACENZA Chat can tell you about new messages in three ways: notifications while the app is open, push notifications when it’s closed, and a short email when you’ve been away. All three are set in Settings › Notifications. Push and email are off until you turn them on. For muting single chats, see Notifications.
While Tacenza is open
Notifications appear while Tacenza is open, or installed and running.
- Go to Settings › Notifications.
- Under On this device, select Turn on notifications and allow them when your browser asks.
If your browser says they’re blocked, allow notifications for Tacenza in the browser’s site settings.
Show message text puts the text in the notification. Off, it only says who sent it. With it on, the text shows on your screen and in your system’s notification list.
Push notifications when Tacenza is closed
Push notifications on this device wakes this device when a message arrives while Tacenza is closed. It’s set per device.
- The notice only says you have a new message: no sender, no text.
- It goes through your browser maker’s push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft). They see when you get a notice, never who wrote or what: it’s encrypted and has no content.
- If it says Push isn’t available here, install Tacenza or use a browser that supports it. On an iPhone or iPad, add Tacenza to the Home Screen from Safari first.
Logging out removes push from that device.
What you’re notified about
Under Notify me about, choose: Messages in 1:1 chats, Messages in groups, Mentions of me, Replies to me, Reactions to my messages, and Events I’m going to (15 minutes before).
Each chat can also notify about everything, only mentions and replies, or nothing. Set that in the chat’s info.
Quiet hours
Turn on No notifications during quiet hours and set From and To. Your Do not disturb status silences notifications too.
Push notices have no content, so muting and quiet hours can’t filter them. A muted chat can still wake your device with “You have a new message”.
Email notifications
A short email when you’ve been away for an hour and something new arrived. At most one a day. It never says who wrote or what.
- Go to Settings › Notifications and find Email notifications.
- Enter your email address and select Send code.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the email under Code from the email and select Confirm. The code works for 30 minutes.
To stop, select Turn off and delete the address. The address is deleted from the server.
The server keeps your email address in plain text, the only real-world detail it ever holds, and the mail service sees it when a note is sent. This address is separate from the optional email in Settings › Account, which stays in your encrypted vault. Email notifications only show up in Settings when the server can send email.
